Assistance includes a Parent Support Group. A local United Way agency, the program provides protective shelter in Hopkinsville, counseling, and crisis intervention for battered women and children. Operates a 24 hour crisis line and provides court advocacy for victims of domestic violence and abuse. The program works to prevent child abuse in all its forms throughout Christian County. Assists the needy with utility bills, food, medicine, and rent. Provides camp experience for underprivileged children. The Hopkinsville location also provides a shelter for those in need of lodging and runs a soup kitchen providing midday and evening meals. First Aid Red Cross, Fort Campbell, Military The Christian Co. Red Cross office is located at 1411 South Main Street (across from the First Baptist Church) and their phone number is 885-5328. The babysitting class is for ages 11-15, costs $35, and upon completion of the course one will have earned the American Red Cross Babysitter Training Certificate and the Infant & Child CPR Certification. Medical & Mental Family Resource & Youth Service Centers Created as part of the Ky. Education Reform Act (KERA) in 1990. For additional information, please call Ron Gager at 887-7313. The primary goal is to help remove the barrier's to student's learning by providing direct services or linking families with other community resources. The Centers are open to all students, parents, and families in Christian County. Some of the services include Health & Social Services, Mental Health Counseling/Referrals, Family Crisis Assistance, Parent Workshops, Drug & Alcohol counseling, Employment counseling, Career Fair, Recreational activities, Educational Enrichment services, After School Child Day Care, Support & Training for Day Care Providers, and information on local child care services. All centers are run by full-time coordinators and an Advisory Council.

PUBERTY: (5th grade) The basics of puberty are taught including: how the reproductive organs function (gender specific), hygiene basics, general anatomy (gender specific), video and discussion covering changes that occur during puberty, question/answer session. (6th grade) Review of reproductive organs and functions, discussions about sexuality, pregnancy, resisting pressures to become sexually involved. TOBACCO: (6th grade) Tobacco use prevention techniques are taught to students. CHOOSING THE BEST: (7th and 9th grades) Contract with Alpha Alternative Pregnancy Care Center to provide abstinence until marriage programming. BABY THINK IT OVER: (8th grade): A “what if..” program designed to teach teens the consequences of becoming sexually active. YOUTH ADVOCACY CORP: (11th & 12th grade) High school students are selected to participate in monthly meetings addressing issues relating to high risk behaviors and other topics relating to life as a teen. All birth control options are addressed stressing the importance of abstinence as the only 100% sure way to avoid pregnancy and STDs.
